Access Reveals Linux Platform 3.0

ACCESS, the Japanese company that powers a wide range of phones around the globe, unveiled its Access Linux Platform 3.0, the long overdue successor to the Palm OS (now called Garnet OS). In a presentation at its annual ACCESS Day event, Tomihisa Kamada, ACCESS CTO, executive vice president and co-founder, gave a preview demonstration of ACCESS Linux Platform v3.0, the next generation of the company’s flagship mobile Linux platform, which provides an advanced UI.

It features LinMo compatibility and a pretty OS with detailed transitions and animations. ALP Mini, available immediately for licensing, is a watered down version for feature phones and even non-cellular devices, though it drops Palm Garnet compatibility and native Linux applications. ACCESS Linux Platform mini is well-suited for the more stringent cost and performance requirements of mobile and Internet-enabled devices in emerging markets. The product’s market-proven technology has already been commercially deployed in China and Taiwan on devices from manufacturers such as global leader Haier Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Novarobo Technology Co., Ltd.

ACCESS Linux Platform mini is optimized for the following minimum hardware specifications: 200MHz CPU, 32MB RAM, 32MB ROM. Key product features include:
