Backblaze: Possibly world’s easiest online backup
Backblaze presents the easiest way yet to protect precious digital files by “Online Backup” where a small program runs on your computer and pushes a copy of your important files to the Backblaze servers running in San Francisco, California. Backblaze allows the user to back up data automatically, manually, when the computer is idle, or on an hourly schedule. The service makes use of AES encryption for security, and uses data compression and bandwidth throttling to reduce upload and download times. Files that need to be restored can be delivered in the form of an online interface, a USB drive, or a DVD. Backblaze offers the only no-configuration online backup service. Available worldwide in 11 languages, Backblaze costs just $5 per month per computer for unlimited backup.
Getting started with a Backblaze trial is as easy as installing a small client (Windows-only for now with Mac OS X coming soon and Linux later), then entering a valid e-mail address and password to create an account (i.e., no other personal data is required until you decide to purchase an account). The client immediately begins backing up files not found in its default excluded directories that are smaller than 100MB. Backblaze’s dashboard displays a count of files selected for backup and how many are left, as well as the next scheduled backup. By default, Backblaze is set to upload changes immediately, but you have choices for setting a schedule (When Idle, Once a Day, or Manual) if don’t want to spare a single drop of CPU or bandwidth while you’re working. All of your information will be backed up to a secure facility, so you don’t need to worry about it being in harm’s way. To address these concerns and help people backup, Backblaze makes backing up easy and affordable.
