BlogTalkRadio

BlogTalkRadio is a web-based platform that allows callers to host a live call-in Internet broadcast using a computer and a phone. Founded in August 2006 by Alan Levy and Bob Charish, BlogTalkRadio is the leading social radio network. It is a free, user-friendly Internet radio network.  Create your own live talk show which can be heard around the world without the need for fancy equipment or downloads.

The service is supported entirely by advertising. Audio advertisements are inserted, live, in the audio stream; the host gets a warning on his or her console before the ads play, so he or she is able to gracefully cut to the commercial. BlogTalkRadio lets anyone host a live radio show with call-in capabilities and up to 2 hours of talk time for free (though shows are scheduled for 15, 30, or 60 minutes). Hosts are assigned two land line phone numbers: One that they call to actually record the show (this can also be done via VoIP) and another that listeners or guests use to call in to the show. Freedom of speech meets social networking.
