ShortForm.tv : Streams Web Video Playlists

ShortForm.tv is operating under a goal of making web video viewing more like television viewing, and brings viewers a number of “channels”. Its  variety of channels houses a selection of short videos and  has been sorted and collected by both real-live human curators and aggregation software. Video clips are presented in channels, including Facebook Hits, HaHa Funny, So Hollywood, Feel Good, Totally Weird and Super Cute.  When you find a clip you like, you can save it to your My Channel, curating your own Channel of video clips as you go.  If you don’t like a clip, you can simply click ahead to the next one.

User feedback is also taken into consideration when it comes to determining whether or not a clip will remain in a specific stream. Users can give a thumbs up or thumbs down to a clip or skip to the next video, as well as share clips with friends via Facebook, Twitter, Digg or email. ShortForm.tv users can also create their own streams with all of their favorite web videos using the My Channel function.

You can also choose to share your channel with other users and friends. As more and more users makes their way to the site, the founder says you will be able to compete to have your channel featured on the main page, which should be an incentive for hardcore viral-video fans to join.

ZooBurst: Allows Creating Your Own 3D Pop-u

Pop-up books have gone digital at last–and you don’t even need 3-D glasses. ZooBurst allows users to create 3D pop-up books using nothing more than public domain clip art and ZooBurst’s web-based editing tools. No technical skills whatsoever are required, and as long as you have some good ideas to go around you will turn them into something compelling for certain. The 3D book-builder allows narration, images, animations, and speech balloons to be added to the story. Its interface is simple and certainly suitable for elementary-school age kids to use to create and illustrate their own stories.

The books can be viewed in a browser with the Flash plugin or you can choose to experience them in Augmented Reality: print out a page with a special marker on it, then point your computer’s webcam at the marker and the book pops up. ZooBurst is still in alpha and is accepting new users on a rolling basis. According to project creator Craig Kapp, additional features are in the works, including the integration of audio effects, more customizable characters, and enhanced AR visualizations. ZooBurst also plans a “classroom management” tool so that teachers can manage their own students’ accounts from within the system.

According to Kapp, over 750 teachers are currently using the technology, which also lets students create their own stories. Kids can choose from a huge library of clip art, insert backgrounds, type up dialogue, and then watch their creations come to life in 3-D. There are over 44 user-created books, including an instructional story on how kids can stay safe on the Internet, personal narratives and even a 3D Mother’s Day card!
