Forrst: A social network for designers and developers

Forrst seeks to give designers and developers a place to share all their “little somethings” in a beautiful, social setting. Forrst is a creation of Brooklyn-based developer/designer, Kyle Bragger. The site has a simple, clear-cut mandate: it’s “a place for designers and developers to share inspiring code, screenshots, and links with their peers.

Forrst allows you to register an account and run your own profile, similar to a Twitter or Foursquare profile. You can follow other designers/developers in the community to receive their updates on your homepage dashboard in real-time! When you first register you choose what type of account you want to run – designer, developer, or both. It doesn’t limit what types of content you can post based on your account, it’s just easier for others to look at your profile and get a quick idea of what you do

Just as Tumblr users can pick from text, pictures, videos and other media to publish, members of Forrst can choose from links, screenshots of projects, bits of code and questions. They can follow one another and view a stream of posts on their dashboard where they can “like” and comment on activity. The site was featured recently in a Smashing Mag post on 2010 web trends. Calling Forrst.com a “beautiful design with attractive visual elements and original navigation,” Smashing said the details combine to form an excellent impression.
