Google AdSense for Games
In Google’s expanding effort to monetize all Internet content, the search giant today announces Google AdSense for Games. On Tuesday night, Google announced the beta launch of its new AdSense for Games program, the search giant’s first foray into the video games market. Currently participating game publishers include Konami, Playfish, Zynga, and Demand Media, Google says.
The new ads will run in Adobe Flash games that run in a browser. Google has been testing the new formats over the past few months and launches today. Once embedded within the game, developers will collect revenues from the ads on both cost-per-impression and cost-per-click scales. The revenues will be divided between Google and the game’s publisher. Advertisers, like Esurance, Sprint, and Sony Pictures, can insert ads into games or videos for YouTube, while game developers can designate points in a game to make an “ad request.” Google, using comScore estimates, in a press release said that every week, more than 25 percent of Internet users worldwide play online games, which amounts to more than 200 million people. This number is growing at a rate of almost 17 percent each year
