I don’t think toolnel actually works. It says it’s working and compressing to 50%, but my own bandwidth tracker says otherwise. I don’t know what it’s doing, to be honest. It’s compressing the images, but that may be happening locally. The fact is that it does NOT reduce bandwidth consumption the way it says it does. It’s also completely unlinked-to, and undocumented besides this website and its own and a few things in russian, which makes me wonder whether it might be a trojan horse. Not something I think I’m going to keep around.

I use Opera .. It has an option to ‘turn off images’ while surfing. Particulary handy for familar message boards / forums etc .. Saves heaps of time and bytes. No ads, faces or flash images on the screen .. – Thats gotta be good.

You can also use HostsEditor. This is a java app and does not use much of your CPU like other software.
The app is available on vikta.org or demonoid.com
