Microsoft release Origami Experience 2

Brandon LeBlanc: The Origami Experience 2.0 has been released for download on the Microsoft Download Center today! The Origami Experience 2.0 is designed for Ultra-Mobile PCs that run Windows Vista. It’s mainly meant to put a touch-happy skin on top of many existing Vista features, and includes Picture Password, Weather, RSS, email, calendar and other widget functionality in the new Origami Now screen. In any case, you can grab it now if you have a UMPC running Microsoft Windows Vista; just like the original, devices running XP are out of luck. There’s also a new web browser called Origami Central that’s basically a customized version of Internet Explorer 7 designed for touchscreen devices. It supports ActiveX, Flash, and Silverlight. Origami Central’s toolbar auto-hides to maximize screen real estate on small UMPCs with 1024 x 600 resolutions.

To run the Origami Experience 2.0, a UMPC with the following specifications is recommended:

  • Minimum 100 MB of available hard disk space
  • Minimum 1 GB of system memory
  • Touch panel display (required for Origami Picture Password)
