The paradox that is the internet

The internet is by and large a very interesting place that exists in totality without beginning or end.

The most interesting aspect of the internet is its ability to cloak people in anonymity and at the same time it encourages them to shed their inhibitions and get acquainted with others of their ilk.

Take for example the social communities that flourish on the net. In case you have never visited one any social network requires you to create a profile and also gives you the space to post your picture.

A random survey of any social networking site will tell you that you that more often than not people do not post their pictures and prefer to put up a useless logo or the photograph of a well known celebrity instead.

This practice is often accompanied by a fake profile projecting them as something that they want to be rather than what they are. Although it is usually a good idea to not post any kind of personal information on the net that can be misused people usually take this too far with the kind of tactics already mentioned above.

While they are busy protecting their identities they fail to do any thing about their mentalities and they often end up talking about things that they would usually be ashamed to even mention in public.

Perfectly normal individuals some how find it hard to contain the filth of their minds when given the anonymity of the internet. You would easily find people with onscreen names like young_stud _22 who are actually middle aged over the hill forty somethings wanting to be young and the net is the only place where their pretensions can actually be carried off.

It is a really sad state of affairs when you think about it. I mean how much more pathetic could it be?

What next? Guys pretending to be girls? Wait doesn’t that already happen?

Of course the anonymity of the net gives you a lot of protection against unscrupulous and anti social elements but then you would be hard pressed to find the kind of genuine individuals that you would actually like to talk to.

Of course there’s always the fact that you actually don’t have to know the real identity of the person that you are talking to. Isn’t it better to have an interesting conversation over the internet rather than meeting the person and finding them dead boring because they are shy?

In the movie Meg Ryan’s character hates Tom Hank’s character and yet they are able to get along just fine on the net. Perhaps the anonymity is really better.

At the end of the day whether you choose to reveal your true identity or you keep it a secret the bottom line is that you would not be able to determine whether the individual you are talking to is really genuine or not.

My suggestion is enjoy it while it lasts. There’s really no point to the whole debate. You need to be really picky to want to actually know some thing that inane. Who cares a slong as the conversation is sparkling and the wit flows.
