Vook
Vook is a new innovation that blends a book with videos and connects with social media to create a whole new experience in story. Vook has created an innovative platform where all forms of media come together to create a whole greater than the sum of its parts. Vooks blend text and video into a single, uninterrupted reading and viewing experience, enabling readers to read and watch at the same location on their screen. Vook, backed by Brad Inman—who founded the Internet video company, TurnHere, which became a go-to producer of book trailers for publishers—worked with S&S on creating four vooks, all Atria titles, for the launch of their product
The titles, priced at $6.99, feature between 13 and 17 videos each. The videos, which vary in length from a minute to two minutes, appear alongside the text and users can opt to play the content on a standalone screen or watch it within the existing print layout. (The vook format also lets users jump to specific videos.) Preview Mode lets you try a vook free for free, watch a video, click on links, experiement with the different views. It’s fun and easy
Vooks are available on the iPhone and iPod touch, providing users constant access to engaging content whenever they want it. The applications have quickly become among the most compelling mobile entertainment options on the market, and some of the bestselling book applications at the iTunes store. Vooks are also available for the desktop and all browser-enabled computers via the Vook Reader, which allows for a full screen viewing experience of Vook’s HD-quality videos and integrated text.
