Yahoo has launched the Yahoo! Search BOSS (Build your Own Search Service), a web services platform that allow third parties to build their own search engine using Yahoo’s index and ranking methodologies as a base. With Yahoo Search BOSS you can do many things including access Yahoo! search results, combine them with other sources, re-ranking search results, presenting search results in any form that users want, mashup search results with other data sources, access to web, news and image search and unlimited number of queries per day. Yahoo believes that it would attract a lot of developers as it gives them resources worth more than couple of hundred millions. After becoming the talk of the town with Microsoft’s attempt to acquire the company, Yahoo continues to work hard to make sure that they can fight it out. Building a competitive search engine would require upwards of $300 million in capital investments, according to Prabhakar Raghavan, chief strategist for Yahoo Search. The company has announced several launch partners, including Hakia, Me.dium, Daylife To-Go, and Cluuz.
